The word "Châtelleret" means "small castle". This large stone house was built on the very place where Pierre Gaspard bivouacked the night before he conquered La Meije. The hut nestles at the heart of the Vallon des Etançons and is surrounded by breathtaking rugged and unspoilt landscapes.

The Vallon of Etançons is a mecca for ski touring enthusiasts. There are routes perfect both for beginners and those looking for a higher Alpine experience. Some skiers enjoy day trips out, returning to the hut, whilst others stay for a night on the Tour de la Meije. The wardens are able to accompany you on your ski tours. Hikers can also enjoy the valley by snowshoeing up to the hut, either as a day trip or staying overnight. Accessible to families with children aged over 7. Lunches served.
