This is the route of the well-known Zegama-Aizkorri marathon, a demanding route which takes between 5 and 10 hours (depending on one’s level).
This route is not marked with the Trail Station signs but with yellow dots (markings). The frequency of these signs along the route is very high, so, if signs cannot be seen continually, you must return to the last marking. However, for your safety, the use of a GPS is compulsory. The weather can change quickly which could lead to you getting lost in the mist. With snow or in bad weather, some of the markings will not be visible.
The route begins in Zegama Square. Leaving the church on our right, there is a steep concrete slope which takes us up to a path on the left that goes past the Izarra farmhouse. From this point, we follow the markings.
