The Donejakue vertical kilometre (or The Way of Saint James),begins in Zegama Square. We head for the town exit towards Otzaurte, and after leaving Zegama we pass a car wash on the left. At this point, we will see the first signs indicating The Way of Saint James. From this point, we pass through an area of farmhouses climbing the asphalted and concrete paths (we must cross the road that leads up to the top of Otzaurte). On arriving at the Buenavista farmhouse, we turn left on to mountain tracks and pathways. To reach the end, all we have to do is follow the Way of Saint James signs – the wooden posts with a yellow arrow. The route comes to an end after the San Adrián Tunnel or Leizarrate.
However, for your safety, the use of a GPS is compulsory. The weather can change quickly which could lead to you getting lost in the mist. With snow or in bad weather, some of the markings will not be visible.
