Course adapted to Cani-trailers
The route starts with an easy descent from the Aracou pass, along the ski slopes that take you to the bottom of the Soussouéou valley. The descent continues along the Soussouéou river to the authentic Goua bridge. From there you go down into a new valley where the ascent to the village of Fabrèges (bottom of the gondola) begins.
Itinerary information :
The departure is at the top of the Sagette gondola lift, at the departure station of the Artouste train.
Arriving in the Vallon de Soussouéou (km 3,5) go under the two chairlifts and cross the river Gave by the small bridge. Then go north (on your left when you cross the bridge) to find the path on the edge of the woods (bottom of the valley). This path is marked with a small yellow line (PR).
When you cross the GR10, you will find the beacons of the trail station. Let yourself slide to the Goua bridge, by a technical path, sometimes rocky. After the Goua, you start a progressive ascent on a trail, then in the forest, which will lead you to the hydroelectric plant on the roadside. You have to go around it for 1.5 kms on the road (be careful) before turning left and before the dam on a path that will lead you, after a last push, to the Fabrèges station by the old tennis court.
A variant (marked out) in balcony on the slopes of Arcizette is possible from this footbridge: go straight on (East) towards the Cabanes du Soussouéou and follow the path that goes diagonally upwards in North-West direction to join the GR10. It adds 1km and 250m D+/- compared to the "classic" itinerary.
The Trail Card, available at the Welcome Base, allows you to benefit from special rates to access the departure by gondola.

Difficulty of the route : Difficult
In Cani-trail, the high percentage of negative elevation gain can be complicated. Indeed, the dog's traction can unbalance you, especially during successive walks. We recommend that you do this loop in the opposite direction, starting from the village of Fabrèges (or if you have several vehicles, from the Artouste power station) and ending at the top of the Artouste gondola lift. The gondola is accessible and free for dogs.
The hut of Soussouéou is occupied during the summer period by shepherds with their dogs. The trail is quite far from the hut but stay vigilant and always go around the herds.
The Soussouéou river on the plateau of the same name offers you a water and refreshment point. A natural spring (Houn de Mouscabarous) is also present on the GR 10.
Most of this itinerary is located in undergrowth and therefore shady, which your dogs will appreciate.
If you come with several cars we advise you to start (or finish) the loop at the Artouste power station, which will allow you to avoid the 1.5km of busy roads.
Through our practice, it is essential to respect the work of the farmers, other operators and owners who welcome us on their land:
So that the herds do not escape, close all the electric fences well and do not damage them!
Also, do not disturb the herds, greet the people you meet with a friendly "hello", and of course bring back all your garbage! Don't cut routes across the meadows, and don't picnic either!
