Snow Trail - Le Grand Carroz

Snowshoe trail open to trail on snow. The markings to follow are the snowshoe markings with "Snow Trail" buttons.

On the Montfred plateau, the atmosphere is very wild and the place is quite isolated!
Quite a long itinerary... to avoid in fog or heavy snowfall.

Go down between the Foyer de Fond and the car park, following the start of the slopes. Cross the footbridge, and go back to the right towards a barn, then through meadows, until the ridge of "Lachat". Continue the path that goes down behind the ridge and then passes through barns. At the end of the meadow, leave the return route on the right, and take the "Chemin de Montfred" on the left. Higher up, leave this path to go back to the right by sneaking through the coppice. Be careful! Careful! Cliff on the right.
Staying more or less in the same direction, the route leads to the Châtelard meadow. Cross the cross-country track and continue in the meadow that forms a corridor at the foot of the hill. Cross the cross-country track again to continue the path in front.
Further on, leave a large meadow on the left and follow the edge of the woods to take the path back into the forest. Continue this same path which goes down to the Grand Carroz.
Once you reach the "Place du village" towards the pool, take the road on the right for about 80m, until you reach the barn towards another pool. Walk along the meadows above the road, then cross a stream and a spruce plantation. Then go up through meadows, above the hamlet of Les Girouds, to the isolated barn on the edge of the woods, at "l'Alavanche". Continue along a nice path through the woods, in the same direction. When it catches up with another path, go up to the right, then cross the combe de la Doët. After a good ascent, the path joins the itinerary of the outward journey, which must be repeated until you reach the Foyer.

Through our practice, it is essential to respect the work of farmers, other operators and owners who welcome us on their land:

Do not cut routes across the prairies. Some routes use snowshoe routes, on which runners are welcome. On the other hand, for routes passing near cross-country ski slopes, it is strictly forbidden to use the groomed slopes.

To prevent herds from escaping, close all electric fences tightly (and do not damage them).

Also, don't disturb the herds, greet the people you meet with a friendly "hello", and of course bring back all your garbage! Do not cut routes across the prairies, do not picnic either!
