Saint-Aventin, a municipality in the Pyrenees, is a charming village in Haute-Garonne in the Occitanie region. With a population of about a hundred inhabitants, it takes place in the Comminges, and extends to the Spanish border.
According to legend, Saint-Aventine was created on the very site of Saint Aventine's tomb. The latter, an 8th century hermit, was reportedly beheaded by the Saracens, picked up his head and walked to the exact location of the village. For several centuries, the site was the scene of a major pilgrimage respected in June.
In addition to hosting an important winter sports resort in the Pyrenees, appreciated by sportsmen and mountain holiday enthusiasts, the municipality of Saint-Aventin also unveils a charming architectural heritage that reflects the style found throughout the area.
